DST NIDHI Ignition Grant

The DST NIDHI (National Initiative for Developing and Harnessing Innovations) Ignition Grant is a program by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) in India, designed to support startups and entrepreneurs at the early stages of their journey. It provides financial assistance to ideas with potential for commercialization, enabling innovators to convert their prototypes into market-ready products. The grant primarily targets startups in technology-driven sectors, helping them overcome initial hurdles such as product development, market validation, and scaling. By fostering innovation, the NIDHI Ignition Grant aims to promote entrepreneurship and accelerate the growth of the Indian startup ecosystem.


IGNITION GRANT: Guidelines and Criteria

KIT’s IRF, operating as a Section (8) Company at KITCoEK and supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under NIDHI i-TBI, was called for proposals from innovators and startups.

The call is specifically aimed at selecting ideas and innovations for the provision of an Ignition Grant. This grant, provided by KIT’s IRF through DST NIDHI i-TBI @KITCoEK, can amount up to INR 10.00 Lakhs* and is designed to facilitate the transformation of technology and science-based concepts into tangible prototypes or products.

To qualify for this Ignition Grant, applicants must meet certain general and eligibility criteria. The grant is intended for the development of prototypes or products rooted in technology and science, with a clear pathway towards commercialization.

The proposed prototype must be a physical product, capable of completion within 12 to 14 months.

The grant support ranges from a minimum of INR 2.00 lakhs to a maximum of INR 10 lakhs*, catering to individual innovators or early-stage startups. Applicants are expected to possess technical skills or backgrounds relevant to their projects, and they retain ownership of any intellectual property (IP) generated through the grant.

The startup should not exceed two years in age and must maintain an annual turnover below INR 25 Lakhs since its inception. These criteria collectively aim to foster innovation and entrepreneurship by providing crucial support to promising ideas and startups within the technology and science domains.
